Following more than forty-five years in public relations/marketing/media relations, Wanda Adams Fischer decided to try her hand at writing fiction. Her debut novel, Empty Seats, focused on three minor league baseball players who aspired to make it to the big leagues, thinking that it would be easy, after having been stars in their respective hometowns. Little did they know that everyone in minor league ball had the same backstories as they did. Her second novel, A Few Bumps, was a complete departure from the first, exploring social justice issues in the form of a romantic adventure between two people from different socioeconomc backgrounds. Her latest novel, Still Doing Time, follows a character from Empty Seats, as he leaves prison after serving time for a crime he didn't commit, looking to begin a new life. Will he ever get back to baseball?When she was in high school, Wanda had wanted to become a sportswriter. In the 1960s, that career path was not exactly open to women, and she became involved in political issues, such as civil rights and anti-Vietnam war activities. However, as an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox, she remains committed to her team in particular and to sports in general. In 2012, she was honored to serve as "guest in the chair," the one-day public address announcer for a full game between the Boston Red Sox and the Minnesota Twins at Fenway Park. A singer/songwriter since the 1960s, Wanda has also hosted a folk music radio show, first on WCUW in Worcester (1975-79), and, most recently on Albany, NY's National Public Radio affiliate, WAMC, since 1982. Folk Alliance International inducted her into its Folk Radio Hall of Fame in 2019; she was inducted into the Thomas Edison Hall of Fame for her support of music in New York's Capital Region in 2023. She earned a bachelor's degree in English from Northeastern University in BostonShe lives with her husband, Bill, a retired family physician, in Schenectady, New York. They have two adult children and seven grandchildren.
